Young adults entering college need to show proof of immunity against
Diphtheria, Tetanus, Measles, Mumps, and Rubella. Most colleges will require
a certificate of immunity as part of their admission process. The college or
university may advise the student to request that his/her Illinois high
school health record (Certificate of Child Health Examination) be forwarded
to the designated record keeping office at the time that the high school
transmits the official transcript of grades. If the immunizations history on
the high school health record complies with the college/university
immunizations requirements, the health record may be accepted by the college
or university as proof of immunity.
Other vaccines to consider before college entrance would be Hepatitis and
the Meningococcal vaccine. According to the National Center for Infectious
Disease, the Advisory Committee on Immunizations Practice, recommends
freshman students who will be living in a dormitory and want to reduce their
risk for meningococcal disease, should consult with their physician in
regard to obtaining the vaccine.
Further information on immunizations may be obtained by calling the Kane
County Health Department 630/264-7665 OR 630/264-7652.
