The Kane County Health Department works daily to protect the well being of the public.  Programs are in place to protect the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink.  When diseases appear in the community, the health department takes steps to reduce illness and death among the citizens.  In the event of a bioterror attack or a naturally occurring outbreak of an infectious disease, the health department can activate plans to respond quickly and effectively.

The health department works with a wide range of community partners to keep Kane County safe.  These partners represent the medical community, law enforcement, fire departments, schools, emergency management agencies and many other agencies on the local, state and federal level.

Please look over the information found on this website concerning emergency preparedness.  We hope that many of your questions will be answered by the information and links we have put together.

If you have additional questions or comments, please contact us at

Kane County has instituted the CodeRED® Emergency Telephone Notification System. CodeRED® is an ultra high-speed telephone communications service for emergency notifications. This system allows local officials to telephone targeted areas of a municipality or the entire County in case an emergency situation requires immediate action (such as a boil-water notice, missing child or evacuation notices) occurs.

The system is capable of dialing 50,000 phone numbers per hour. It then delivers a recorded message to a live person or an answering machine, making three attempts to connect to any number.

This system allows anyone within Kane County to update their residential or business information, including cellular telephone numbers, to be included in important call notifications.
