12-23-09 A second H1N1 vaccine manufacturer, MedImmune, is conducting a voluntary, non-safety-related recall of 4.7 million doses of vaccine because its tests show that the potency of nasal spray vaccine had decreased or was at risk of decreasing below prescribed limits. There are no safety concerns with these lots of 2009 H1N1 vaccine.  For more information, please follow this LINK
12-16-09  Vaccine manufacturer, Sanofi Pasteur, Inc., is conducting a voluntary, non-safety-related recall of certain lots of some vaccine because it contained less than the required amount of the active ingredient (also called the antigen). There is no safety risk and there is no need to revaccinate children who have received the vaccine from the recalled lots. The Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration agree that the small decrease in antigen content will have little to no reduction in its effectiveness.

Parents of children who received vaccine from the recalled lots do not need to take any action, other than to complete the two-dose immunization series, if not already completed. Click here for CDC FAQs about the Recall

The Health Department continues to encourage those in the following Priority Groups to get vaccinated, as they are at highest risk:
   · Pregnant women.
   · Anyone who cares for children younger than 6 months of age.
   · Young people between the age of 6 months and 24 years of age.
   · Healthcare workers and emergency services personnel
   · Persons aged 25--64 years who have medical conditions that put them at higher risk
     for influenza-related complications.

If you have a fever or serious illness, you cannot receive the vaccine.  Everyone who wants to receive the vaccine, however, will have the opportunity to do so as the vaccine becomes more available.
