The impetus for Mammograms & More started with a free mammogram program operating in central Kane County.

As word spread about the free mammograms, calls to the program for additional breast health services as well as other women’s health care services began to escalate.

Over time, it became apparent that despite the availability of a wide variety of free and low cost women’s health care services in Kane County, it was often difficult for women to access those services. Although health care professionals and social service agencies have long had access to volumes of local resources, the average citizen has not.

Thus, the idea was born to create a directory of free and low cost women’s breast health and other health care services for consumer use.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the Kane County Health Department developed Mammograms & More, the initial Guide to Free and Low Cost Women’s Health Care Services. In addition to the free print directory, the information has also been posted on this website (see link to pdf file below.)

The grant also provides for the operation of a Helpline –
630-264-7670 – women can call for assistance in locating appropriate resources.

While every effort was made to provide a comprehensive listing of services, we no doubt missed a few. Anyone wishing to be added to the Internet version of the directory is encouraged to call the Helpline.

For convenience purposes, Mammograms & More has been divided into four main sections:

Free and low cost breast health services
Additional free and low cost women’s general health services
  Provider directory
  Website directory
