Sexually Transmitted Infections
Sexually transmitted infections (STI) are a group of diseases that are transmitted through sexual contact. They may be caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, or parasites, and are very common in the U.S. with millions of new infections occurring every year.
It is very important to know about STIs and how to protect yourself and your sex partner(s) from getting them. STIs pass from one person to another through vaginal, oral, and anal sex. Many STIs have no symptoms, so it is possible to have an infection and not know it. If you are sexually active, it is important to get tested for STIs. All STIs are treatable with medicine and some are curable entirely.
