Project Safe Aurora

In accordance with the Reimagine Public Safety Act and in unity with our partners, we envision an Aurora where every individual is empowered, supported, and thrives in peace and safety; a community so resilient and unified that the thought of turning to gun violence fades away, making Aurora a beacon of a violence-free future.

Our mission is to foster awareness of gun violence, build bridges within the community, and advocate for systemic changes that protect and uplift every resident of Aurora to reduce gun violence. Through research, community collaboration, and innovative approaches, we strive for an environment where safety and health are intertwined.

Community members are invited to our monthly meetings. For more information, please email Elizabeth Nunez at: nunezelizabeth@kanecountyil.gov

Gun Violence is a Public Health Issue

Gun violence is a public health issue because it affects more than the people directly involved. It can impact families, neighborhoods, and entire communities. Gun violence can lead to serious injuries and loss of life, as well as trauma, stress, mental health challenges, and other long-term effects on health and well-being.

A public health approach focuses on preventing violence before it happens, not just responding after the incident occurs. This means understanding the factors that contribute to violence, reducing risks, building on community strengths, and connecting individuals and families to helpful resources and support

Addressing gun violence takes a community-wide effort. Project Safe Aurora brings together community partners who work collaboratively to prevent gun violence, support the residents of Aurora, and build safer and healthier communities.
